Electrical/Firmware Engineer

Experience:
Will consider Staff Engineer up to Sr. Engineer level depending on relevant experience and expertise.

Job Description: Support development of cutting-edge laser and electro-optical systems through the design, implementation, debug and verification of electrical sub-systems.  Design electrical subsystems for high powered laser systems in support of new product development.  Lead Electrical Engineering system trade off discussions with partners (electrical engineering, firmware, software, mechanical), design circuit boards to support laser systems, and drive design to closure and release to manufacturing. Design goals are power distribution, digital control PCBA design, analog PCBA design, and design of associated real time circuits to drive laser diodes and safety circuits within laser systems.

Required Experience / Capability:

  2. Ability to work in a dynamic and at times stressful environment and maintain composure and good working relationships under stress. Requirements change frequently and rapid-turn solutions must be developed frequently.
  3. Effectively manage schedule and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.
  4. Experience in laser diode drive electronics.
  5. Experience in power systems and batteries. Familiarity with power electronics and power conditioning.
  6. Experience in PCB Design and Test.
  7. Grounding system design and test.
  8. Experience with VHDL or Verilog. Experience with FPGAs or microcontrollers and their interface to external devices (PCs, motors, analog circuits).
  9. Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, C#, Python.
  10. Exhibit strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with implementation of electro-optical systems.

Additional Desired Experience / Capability

  1. Familiarity with conductive electronics cooling techniques
  2. Vendor management experience
  3. Experience in Cable Design, Build, and Test.
  4. Ability to develop software in LabVIEW and/or Formal LabVIEW certifications
  5. Ability to develop software in MATLAB.
  6. Ability to read and debug C/C++/C#/Python.
  7. Compliance testing and certification for international safety standards, EMC, and environmental regulations (UL, CE, IEC, RoHS, etc.
  8. Data acquisition and automation.
  9. Experience with Fiber Optic cable design for data transmission (MTP connectors and OM3 fiber.
  10. Experience with 38999 connectors and MIL-STD Cable Design.
  11. Experience with CameraLink.
  12. Experience with electro-optical systems including acquisition, pointing, and tracking.
  13. Experience in Adaptive Optical (AO) Systems and/or High Energy Laser Systems.
