The EHS Manager will coordinate the execution of corporate EHS expectations at nLIGHT’s US locations and provide EHS support and strategic direction to other nLIGHT locations. Under the direction of the global QEHS Director, this position will provide leadership in the implementation of EHS programs, procedures, and education initiatives that are consistent with the development of a world class team-based EHS culture.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • EHS Policy
    • Promote employee awareness about nLIGHT’s EHS Policy
    • Ensure nLIGHT’s EHS Policy is consistent with statutory and regulatory requirements
    • Report EHS Policy nonconformances to the QEHS Director
    • Propose improvements to the EHS Policy
    • Provide all levels of the company with advice related to EHS matters, legal requirements and best practices
  • EHS Management System
    • Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and update nLIGHT's EHS policies, procedures and programs in the US. Standardize with other global nLIGHT locations
    • Identify, develop and provide EHS training and education
    • Ensure employees are aware of the importance of their role in the successful planning and execution of the EHS MS
    • Collaborate with other functional groups to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of EHS MS processes
    • Develop and manage internal EHS audits of the company, including risk assessments, at varying levels, and act as a trainer/advisor to internal auditors
    • Provide ergonomics assessments as required
    • Conduct annual EHS-self assessments for US locations
    • Drive EHS MS improvements based on the results of annual US EHS-self assessments
    • Create a positive partnership with Facility Leadership and serves as point of contact for EHS-related matters
    • Provide coaching to local managers to ensure technical competence and EHS leadership development 
    • Review and approve the compliance of new equipment through nLIGHT’s station sign-off process
    • Lead Safety Committee meetings
    • Provide oversight of the Emergency Response Teams, including conducting drills as necessary
    • Provide oversight of the hazardous material receiving and disposal processes
    • Execution of a robust Hazard Communication Program including the availability of correct and current SDS
  • EHS Reporting
    • Complete nLIGHT EHS Scorecards for US locations each month
    • Complete and submit OSHA Log for US Sites
    • Complete and submit environmental reports for US sites
    • Lead or participate in investigations of serious incidents within assigned region. Examine and interpret incident data, identify root causes, and verify corrective/preventive actions
    • Works with 3rd party Worker’s Compensation claims adjusters to ensure accurate reporting
  • Product Safety Compliance
    • Support QEHS Director and Engineering regarding product safety and environmental compliance
  • Laser Safety Officer
    • Maintain the position as subject matter expert for laser safety in the US and coordinate with Shanghai LSO
    • Review and approve Laser SOPs and stations’ set-up

Required Experience: 

Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years working in EHS with a track record of hazard elimination and employee engagement. High degree of independence and discipline demonstrated in creating and adhering to own work schedule.

Preferred: 

Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years working in EHS in a manufacturing company in high technology. Product safety compliance knowledge. Demonstrated improvements in leading and lagging EHS indicators

Required Skills: 

Decision making. Collaboration. Basic manufacturing understanding. Knowledge and experience with applicable regulatory and third party standards. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to firmly drive actions and communicate business consequences of non-compliance. Ability to support and gain trust at multiple organizational levels.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Science or related field

Preferred: Master’s Degree and relevant professional certifications
